Uplifting and joyous, African drumming is a great way to learn a new skill. In our class you will be guided step by step into the exciting world of African Music.
Our class starts at 8pm, when we welcome beginners of all ages and abilities for a drumming warm-up and beginners’ rhythms. We tailor our sessions to provide something new and interesting for every member focusing mostly on authentic Guinean and Malian djembe and dundun rhythms.
Our intermediate drummers, who have some previous experience of drumming, arrive at 8:30pm. If you are unsure whether you qualify, please join us at 8pm to warm-up for our intermediate rhythms. We normally include a traditional song, so be sure to bring your best singing voices with you!
Beginners’ rhythms finish at 9pm, and our last half an hour is dedicated to intermediate rhythms only, finishing at 9:30pm. Here we focus on dunduns and djembe solo phrases.
Djembe drums are provided for you at each session, and are available to take home for just £3 per week.
Your first class with us is only £5, or you can sign up for 6-week block of classes for just £40 (£30 for students – ID required!). Thereafter drop-in classes are £10 per class.
All the rhythms that you learn will be available to watch online on this website. You can go to the tuition videos page to see examples of what we have covered so far. But don’t worry there’s no pressure to practise!
Visit our contact and directions page for more information on attending.
Classes take place every Tuesday, please check the session dates page for upcoming sessions and courses.
